Prusik knot with a wood toggle.

To quickly attach a tarp to a ridge line, I use a prusik knot and a wood toggle. I put part of the prusik loop through the grommet on the tarp, and then place the toggle in the loop. The prusik knot can move up and down the ridge line to tighten the tarp to the ridge line. When it is time to take the tarp off the ridge line, simply slide the prusik knot inward to loosen the loop and remove the toggle.

This loop with the toggle can also be used to hang things on the ridge line, like lanterns. I also use the toggle along with a bowline knot to anchor the end of the ridge line to a tree. When it is time to take the line down, just pop the toggle out and you are ready to go.
